Volunteer with us
Please help Brighton and Hove FareShare give more people a fresh start every day. There are several ways to help:
Volunteer with Brighton and Hove FareShare
Brighton and Hove FareShare relies on the generous support of over 50 volunteers to help run and manage the project. We provide valuable training opportunities in food hygiene, manual handling and lifting, driving, delivering and other vocational courses.
What do Brighton and Hove FareShare volunteers do?
FareShare Brighton and Hove has many different opportunities for volunteer work. We make sure a volunteer's role is crafted around their skills and experience, so anyone can volunteer.
Roles include:
- Drivers collect and deliver donated food to projects for homeless people. They carry out very basic checks on the FareShare van. They also help to plan routes and deliveries.
- Sorter/Navigator makes sure that food is of an acceptable quality for redistribution. The food is also counted and categorised. Compile schedules for the shift and direct drivers to delivery and collection points. They are also responsible for ensuring that paperwork is completed at each stop. Good physical strength necessary for this role.
- Office volunteers assist with the administrative tasks in the FareShare office. These include answering telephones and dealing with general enquiries, data entry for collections and deliveries and organising mail outs.
- Fundraising volunteers help us apply to trusts and grant giving bodies and many organise and run fundraising events for us.
What does Brighton and Hove FareShare offer me as a volunteer?
- The chance to give practical help to improve the diet of homeless people.
- A positive work experience
- Training in manual handling, food hygeine and others.
- Reimbursement of travel expenses
What experience do I need?
- We do not discriminate against anyone who would like to volunteer and there are opportunities for everyone.
- Drivers all need to have a clean driving licence.
What commitment do I have to make?
- You will need to be able to commit yourself to at least one shift per week.
- Commitment to equal opportunities, adherence to the corporate policies of FareShare and recognition of the need for confidentiality are all essential.
- Be able to follow procedures, especially relating to food hygeine.
